Hectic few days

You would all be aware that it has been a few days since i last updated the blog. That is largely due to the fact that the last few days have been hectic to say the least. It all started on Monday when Kal's uncle Dave came to visit and we went out for a lovely family dinner then Karina and I went out for the night with David and his good friend Tamara. We had a great night then went for a tour around the vineyards the next day.Just when we thought that things couldn't get much better our attention quickly shifted to Kallan. We had been concerned for a few days at the sores that he had developed in his mouth.Mouth sores are a common side effect of chemo and the doctors said to keep a close eye on it as they looked pretty nasty. But on Monday night although seemingly feeling fine he developed a temperature and we had to bring him down to John Hunter. While he didn't spike a temperature again at all through the night and with his blood counts good the doctors were happy for us to go home. What a bonus we thought only to have him spike a temperature again the following evening. So it was back to John Hunter and this time there would be no early exit for us.Although feeling fine and his temperature again settling down by the time we got down there the doctors weren't prepared to let us go a second time. He'll have to spend the next few days in hospital having some antibiotics and hopefully he'll be discharged on Saturday morning in time for him to go to the Crusty Demons which is actually part of his birthday present. He's been waiting for a long time to go and see them and it would be heartbreaking for him if he were to miss out.We have to wait for the results of his blood cultures to make sure there's no infection. If they detect an infection it'll be 7 days at least and that'll put an end to Crusty Demons.Fingers crossed it won't come to that.

Oh Kal! When I spoke to you on the phone at Nanny's she said you were having difficulty with the sores. I am so sorry that it got worse. Here's hoping all turns out well and you can make it to Crusty Demons. Love you Kal Pal.

It looked like your mouth was so sore on Monday - it must be so hard to try and eat when it hurts so much. I'm so sorry to hear about you back in hospital. I only found out you went on Tues when you were on your way home on Wed and thought well thank goodness for that! And now you've ended up back there. I guess though Kal, you're really in the best place at the minute if your body is trying it's best to fight off an infection. Every 2nd person is fighting off something at the moment - you sure don't need all our germs on top! Fingers crossed for the Crusty Demons! Take care love Karen, Mark, Isaac & Saskia xxxx
