Weekend update

On Saturday we had a relaxing morning before heading off to my little nephew Aiden's birthday party. All the kids had a ball and Allison did a fantastic job of Aiden's birthday cake.It looked like a star wars action scene,it was really quite clever. After a bit of a rest Kal and I headed of to watch the return of the pumpkin pickers into the Newcastle rugby league. The Maitland boys did well scoring wins in both grades with the reserve grade side giving Lakes United an absolute drubbing. In the evening we headed out to the Harvey's for a bbq and a bit of a catch up.

Today was a quiet day with both of us catching up on some rest.We were invited around to my sister Leyanne's house for dinner.Steve was cooking up some lamb shanks and he assured me that i would like them.Like them I did, they were bloody beautiful and Steve will be sorry he invited me around for them because I'll be sniffing them out from now on.It was a good weekend all up and Kal's looking forward to spending more time at school tomorrow.

Like a tiger

Smells like 2005 as the mighty Tigers turned on the razzle dazzle to down the roosters in emphatic fashion. It was the mighty Robbie and Benji show as the Tigers piled on the points late in the game to grab victory. With the help of Taniela the tank and others, the boys turned it on big time.We were invited around to a friends place for birthday celebrations where Kal and I were glued to the TV and with a few other Tigers supporters around it made for a pleasant evening.

Kal had blood taken at John Hunter this morning and after some delays in getting results it was a bit too late for him to go to school. He was a bit tired anyway and he just didn't feel like it in the end.Kal also had a taste of Lawn Bowls this afternoon after spending some time with pop having a roll up at Maitland City.By all reports it took little time for him to grasp the concept of the game and was getting them quite close to the jack.He enjoyed himself and said he'd like to give it another go.I might have to give it whirl with him next time.

Hello sailor

Today it was back to sydney for Kallan and I.But this time it was for a treat not treatment. We were invited aboard the yacht Wild Oats, the Sydney to Hobart race winner for the last few years. It was a very enjoyable day and i'm glad we made the trip.It was good to gain a better understanding of what is involved in sailing a boat of that size.Of course the intensity would be ten fold given a race situation but it was interesting just the same.Kal really enjoyed himself as did the other kids and parents that were lucky enough to join the crew.

Back at school for real

Today was a very exciting and somewhat nervous day for Kallan and to a lesser extent myself. We had a relaxing morning and just before midday he got suited up in his school uniform and headed off to school. Not only was it very satisfying to see him go to school but it was a important step in his recovery to experience a bit of normality. As expected his school mates were overjoyed to see him with a lot of them skipping afternoon tea to stay in the classroom with Kal as it was a bit too hot for him to spend too long outside. His teacher Mrs Tame also said how happy she was to see him looking so well. When we arrived to pick him up she told us that he'd had a great time and said he may not want to leave. But Kal had had enough and wanted to come home but did say how much he enjoyed his few hours with his school mates. He'll have the day off tomorrow and after he has blood taken at john hunter on Friday morning he's going to spend the afternoon at school.

Congrats Kathryn & Cory

Yesterday morning our time my sister in law Kathryn and her husband Cory became parents again to another beautiful boy Ethan Cory Benjamin Anderson. He's the little brother of little cutie Cade.Congratulations Kathryn and Cory and it was really lovely to talk to you yesterday.Kallan literally ripped the phone from me when he realised it was you.

Home at last

We finally made it home today albeit a little bit later than anticipated.Kallan had another magnesium infusion this morning which takes 4hrs so he was discharged a lot later than first thought.By the time we got out and packed up it was late afternoon and the traffic would've been chaos, more so than usual,so we waited a little while before heading home.I have to say packing up was made so much easier thanks to my mum who had just about everything ready to go by the time we got out.I love having mum down there because it allows me to get out and do things i normally wouldn't be able to do.Upon arriving home Kallan and I were welcomed with a sweet little welcome home note from my beautiful little Shaylie.Karina also had tea waiting for us which made for a really nice welcome home.kallan and i don't have a lot planned so we'll just see what happens and make the most of our time home.

Finally some good news

Kallan continues to improve and if it stays that way he'll be discharged at some stage tomorrow.I then had a chat to his oncology doctors to see what there plans were for his chemo. They told me that the plan was to start chemo on the 30th but i told them he had tickets to see the socceroos play on the 1st and that we were also wanting to have a break and a refresh at home. They agreed that a break would be good for both of us and had no problem with putting it off for an extra couple of days.Despite the good news i haven't been game to let myself think we are definitely coming home,I'll believe it when i hand the keys over at the house. If all goes well and we do get home Kal is planning on catching up with some school and soccer buddies. He'd love to go up and have a kick around with them at the oval and also spend some time at school.I,myself am just looking forward to being at home trying to be part of a family again, catching up with some friends and just spend some time relaxing.I refuse to get too carried away with my wishes because i know that everything may not turn out the way i want it too.

Still on the improve

Today saw further improvement with Kal.He hasn't needed any pain relief today and is now able to eat a light diet. The doctor came to see him this morning and said the only thing keeping him in was his stomach pain and with that seemingly disappearing we're hoping for a discharge in the next few days.At this stage we don't know what the plans are for his chemo.I guess that will probably be discussed tomorrow and Kal and I would both love some time at home but we'll just weigh up the pros and cons of both going ahead as scheduled or getting some time off.

Kal had a nice visit from Nanny T today before she heads off to America to visit Kathryn for the impending birth of her second child. She came down with Karina this morning and then went home later in the afternoon with my Mum and shaylie.I wish Kathryn and Cory all the best and hope all goes well on Tuesday. Were all very much looking forward to another healthy baby boy and if little Cade is anything to go by I'm sure he'll be another little cutie.

Just on Shaylie,it was completely remiss of me not to mention that Shaylie returned home as holder of the starlight room's UNO championship belt. She came back from there the other day as proud as punch with the belt draped over her shoulder and a photo of her holding the belt aloft. She defended the belt the next day and came within a whisker of losing her belt to one of the captains. As she won't be here to defend the belt she's had to reluctantly give it up.I have the job of handing it over tomorrow.I may even have to throw down the challenge to try and keep it in the family.

Finally some answers

This morning we finally got some answers on Kallan's condition.Despite the doctors still being unsure of what the problem is they did give us an explanation as to why they are delaying things. They also upgraded his diet to soft food only, which consists of custard, yogurt, soup and those sorts of things.Basically they think he's improving with the antibiotics and would have only operated if it was an emergency which they didn't believe his situation was. They didn't want to rush a decision on an operation because his blood counts were too low but in an emergency they would've taken that risk. One positive is that the blood cultures they took when he was originally taken to emergency have returned a negative result. But they still have to get to the bottom of his latest problem. He'll have a further review in the morning and I'm not too sure what there plans are after that but his oncologist said she would expect that he'll remain in hospital for a few more days at least. She also indicated that his chemo may still go ahead as scheduled which is yet another massive blow to our prospects of being able to come home.I plan on sitting down with his oncology doctors in the next few days and see whether delaying chemo is an option and maybe weigh up the benefits of having a break at home for a little bit as opposed to getting straight back into it.I know that any delay will mean the finish line is that much further away but i want to get there opinion on it.I think he is in need of a bit of a moral boost and i know i most definitely am.

The mystery continues

Well i don't know where to start and with the amount of time I've spent scratching my head you'd swear i had knits. The latest is that they are leaning towards not operating and they'll review him in the morning.Familiar bloody story.Meanwhile the poor kid has been fasting all this time and now has been told he can have clear fluids and that's it.They don't seem to be in any hurry to make a decision and all the while he's been starving. On top of not being able to come home he's stuck in hospital not being able to eat while they make up there bloody mind.I can appreciate the fact that there trying to get it right but surely they would be aware that he's still waiting to be told yes or no to the operation and is still going without food.Anyway i hope that when they say review in the morning they mean morning. There is a common terminology used down here and that is "hospital time".They give you a time and it could mean anytime there ready.

Conflicting reports

Last night while in emergency Kal started complaining of some abdominal pain. The doctor looking after him arranged for him to have an ultrasound this morning. His pain seemed to get a little worse this morning and the initial results from the ultrasound showed that Kallan had appendicitis.I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.He was told to start fasting in preperation for an operation. When some doctors came to see Kal later in the evening he said that they were now unsure as to whether they were going to operate because of conflicting reports. One report said that it was appendicitis and the other was inconclusive. The doctors said it was rare to see someone suffering from appendicitis while also suffering from cancer but it's certainly not out of the question. The other thing they suspect it could be is a condition called tephalitis(however that's spelt). It's a condition that causes inflamation of the gut region and is not uncommon for patients having chemo.Chemo kills off so many things and unfortunately it effects some organs as well. The doctors said they will go back look over the reports with a panel of doctors and come back to us with a decicion later on.Well as of 10:30pm we still haven't been told anything so we are none the wiser which is extremely frustrating.

From excitment to despair

This morning i spoke to a guy from the Wests Tigers and he said that we have an open invitation to attend training and we'd be welcome at anytime.Which is somewhat of a relief because Kallan fell ill this morning and developed a temperature. It means we can't go to watch the boys train tomorrow and even worse we aren't coming home either. To say we both took the news terribly would be an understatement of gigantic proportions. We were both certain we'd be coming home this time as he'd been doing so well. You'd think I'd know by now that nothing is certain down here.I have no idea as to when we'll be home now and that's something we're both having trouble dealing with.We won't know the results of the blood cultures for another 2 days and they'll determine how long we stay in hospital.

We had some more bad news today courtesy of channel 9.They rang our friend Julie to tell her that they'd got there dates wrong and they wouldn't be coming to the hospital as planned tomorrow. The lame excuse they gave is that they double booked for the day despite e-mailing Julie on three separate occasions confirming date and time.It would make sense that they would have to confirm the other booking as well so it would seem impossible for that to happen. It's absolute garbage if you ask me and there's no other explanation other than a better offer has come along.I'll watch to see what the other event is just to see what it is that is more important then helping promote an event for sick children.Thumbs up channel 9.They've either treated the occasion with complete disdain or they are completely inept at there job or both.

School time

Kal spent the full day at school today. He hasn't spent the full day there for a while so it took some convincing to get him to go back after lunch.Apart from an appointment at physio tomorrow we don't have anything planned. We'll get a head start on cleaning up our room so we can get away as soon as we can on Thursday.Nanny Carol arrived late tonight to give me a hand with the cleaning up plus i think she's been away too long for her liking. After all it has been a few weeks since she's been down.

Thursday is going to be a very busy day.Kal has to have blood taken first thing in the morning then he'll have his TV appearance straight after. Then immediately following that he has a doctors appointment which hopefully will be a quick one as they'll only be checking his blood counts and some paperwork for admission. Before we head home we are heading to concord oval for a visit to the Wests Tigers training.Tim Gilbert rang me today to let me know that everything is sweet for us to go.He gave me the number of a guy from the club to ring tomorrow so he can give us directions of where to go and what time. But judging by my previous expeditions around Sydney I won't be needing them.I'm sure we'll have no worries finding our destination. It's just that we may find plenty of other places along the way.Intentionally or otherwise.

Home on Thursday

Kal had a few appointments this morning and after seeing the doctor we were told that we could come home on Thursday. We need to see the doctor on Thursday before we leave and we'll be able to stay at home for the week.We are due back on the 27th for his next dose of chemo.During his time at home he'll get the chance to go to school for a few hours each day something he is really looking forward to.We are required to visit John Hunter for one day to have bloods taken. We're both really looking forward to coming home.

Today Shaylie had her 15 minutes of fame. While visiting the starlight room in her lunch break from school she was asked to co-host the starlight quiz in the afternoon.I watched from down the house and thought she did a fantastic job.She read the questions very well with some incisive comments added in at just the right moments.Good job Shay.

Coldplay.......Top show

Today kal,Shaylie and I eagerly(pardon the pun)awaited the arrival of Karina. We decided to head out for the day to westfields shopping centre for a bit of a look around. We purchased a few items but mainly just looked around. The pet shop always seems to be a favourite of ours.I always say we're not going back because they have the most gorgeous puppy dogs in the world and we know we can't take them home. But they are just so cute we can't resist going in for a look.

Later in the evening Kal and I went to Acer Arena with Simone(the manager of the house)her husband and some other people from the house to check out Coldplay.Without being a huge fan i went with an open mind. After the opening acts failed to deliver i was still hopeful that the main act would meet the expectations all those in attendance.Boy did they deliver. It was an extremely classy show with not only the performance meeting expectations but the whole show that goes along with it a class above the support acts.It had that extra polish that some acts just can't provide with a combination of performance, audience interaction and special lighting effects, etc etc having a lasting effect.I must admit the only reason i took the tickets is because i felt Kallan and I needed an outing.I'm sure glad i took Simone up on her offer.

Tomorrow Kal has to have Bloods taken and an appointment with the doctor.I guess we'll find out how long we can spend at home and when he's needed back for his next treatment.I'm praying for a good break at home but then again the longer the break the further we are away from finishing so it really is a double edge sword if you will.I don't know if the glass is half full or half empty,I really don't know which way to look at it.My thoughts are all over the place if you couldn't tell already.

Better day

Today was a much better day for Kal and I despite kal not feeling the best this morning. For a little while this morning i thought the sickness i was expecting days ago was just starting to set in.But he seemed to feel a bit better when his Uncle Wil and Auntie Al arrived with her kids Chelsea and Campbell along with my little darling Shaylie.Unfortunately young Aiden was a bit crook to come down so Shaylie took his seat in the car so that was good for me i suppose. The kids,as they always do when they come here, had heaps of fun at the house and in the starlight room.

In the evening Kal,Shaylie and I headed off to the Bulldogs v Manly game and despite some pretty awful weather we did have a good time.We went along with Mel and her son Zac,who are also staying here at the house, and the young fella had a blast even allowing for the fact that he is a Manly supporter and they got whooped. It was his first time at the footy and he told his mum on the way home that he'll be up late tonight because he can't get the footy out of his head. While at the footy Kal and Shay showed me how easy it is to waste about $10 in a matter of 10 seconds. While we were eating the food i bought from the snack bar shaylie somehow managed to spill the chips i bought her and since i hadn't eaten too many of mine i gave them to her.Within about 5 secs and without eating a single chip out of them they went tumbling as well.My shock turned to disbelief when only a few seconds later Kallan's packet of potato chips found there way to the ground also.We managed to salvage about half of the packet then I offered them the bottle of coke i had to see how long it would take for them to spill or drop that. But it was still a good night and we managed to keep dry so that was a bonus.

What to do

This morning both Kal and I woke feeling a bit down and basically bored out of our brains. He's still feeling quite well but still a bit low on energy. We decided to get out of the house and with him still unable to do too much we thought we'd check out what was on at the movies. We went to see Slumdog Millionaire which was pretty good. When we came back we both had a snooze such was our mood at the time. It's getting to the stage now where we are completely over the whole thing and just want it all to go away.I try and keep Kal upbeat but when your feeling down yourself it makes very difficult. He can sense now that I'm struggling a bit which is what i didn't want.On a brighter note we had a very nice BBQ for dinner put on by a firm called Winning Appliances. We'll be eating the left overs for some time.Hopefully the next few days will be a bit brighter for us and our mood can lift somewhat.I was given some tickets for Manly and the Bulldogs from the oncology clinic and with a few other families from the house going it should make for a good night even allowing for the teams that are playing. If i was to pick a top 5 of teams i dislike the most these 2 teams would definately make the list. But hey it's a night out and i intend to make the most of it.

Still doing well

Kallan went up and had his injection this morning in clinic and despite a little discomfort there were no troubles. This particular needle they get is pretty painful for them, more so when the medication goes in.But he handled it well. The rest of the day was pretty laid back with not much happening at all.We both had a little snooze after clinic then just chilled out for the rest of the day.I managed to get hold of Tim Gilbert from channel 9 despite losing his number when i lost my phone.I left a message with channel 9 and he was good enough to call me back and he told me that he's spoken to the Wests Tigers and they are more than happy to have us there for a visit at training. We just have to let him know when it's a good time for us and he'll let us know what time to be there. Can't wait for that

Early discharge

Kal's chemo finished this morning and because he was doing so well he could be discharged.I was somewhat reluctant at first but he was still feeling well and he was as keen as mustard to get out of there. He needs an injection in the morning to help get his blood counts back up but it can be given by a nurse in clinic. The good thing is that it's a nurse appointment and it's always a much shorter wait than doctor's appointments. After discharge although very tired and lethargic he said he still felt pretty good.He had a little snooze when he got down and then just watched some tele.He did come out to the living area of the house to have a bit of a chat but retired to the room soon after. He had a shower and watched tele from bed and it wasn't long before he crashed.Although I'm so glad he's doing so well I'm still a little worried about the next few days as sometimes that's when it hits them the hardest. As long i keep up with his nausea meds for the next few days then that will give him the best chance of staying well.It means setting the alarm every 4hrs but I'm not taking any chances. We have a few appointments over the next few days but I wanted to wait a little while before coming home anyway just to make sure he's up to the trip home.

I did see a copy of the article that was in the Maitland Mercury of my famous little man. It's a great photo of him, among a lot of other really nice ones taken that day.
Next Thursday his star will rise a little further when channel 9 come to the hospital for a bandaged bear promotion.Julie has made sure that Kallan will be a feature and Steven Jacobs may even ask him a few questions. All going well after his TV appearance we'll be able to come straight home.I'm unsure as to when they'll want him back but I'm hoping for at least a week or so at home. But I'll take anything.

Going great guns

Kallan will finish chemo tomorrow morning and at this stage he's doing really well. He's still eating a little and drinking a lot.The smell of food was enough for him to feel like throwing up whenever he's had these drugs before. He had the worst one taken down earlier today and as the nurse unplugged him he turned to me and said "well i kicked it's arse this time".You certainly did mate.Let's hope he can stay this way till tomorrow when the chemo is finished. The big test will come later as sometimes the worst part is the few days after the chemo has stopped.

Kal had another visit from Julie today but this time she bought along a few more visitors. Some of the Bulldogs 1st grade squad come along and visited kids and handed out some stuff.Julie made sure they visited Kal although she had pre warned them that we were tigers supporters but they were pretty good sports about it.They stayed and chatted for a little while and took a few photos which I'll be getting copies of later. It's good to have guys like that come and visit the kids. You can't underestimate the boost it gives them.Kal and I would prefer them dressed correctly in the right colours but it was nice just the same.

Chemo underway

This morning at around 10 o'clock Kallan started his chemo. The first few hours bought no real change in him but he got pretty tired and ended up having a good sleep. At around 7pm he began to feel unwell and complained of a headache. He was given some panadol and nausea meds and he managed to get back off to sleep for a while. As this particular chemo is notorious for making him very sick i was very surprised to see him feeling much better when he woke up.He even had a bit to eat and drink and was pretty much his normal self.He stayed that way till he eventually went back to sleep for the night.Good start for him today .

Earlier today when Kal was having a sleep one of his favourite people here,Julie from public relations, came to visit him.She told us that the posters going up around Westfields shopping centre arrived today and they're huge, bigger than life size apparently.I think if we ever started a Kallan Egar fan club Julie would be President,Chairperson and just about everything else. She just loves him and spoils him more than just a little as well.Julie also mentioned that the week before Bandaged Bear Day channel 9 will be coming to the hospital to do some promotions and she wants Kallan to be involved somehow. She said to bring Shaylie down as well and I'm sure I'll have to really twist her arm for that.I know how shy she is around a camera and she'd just hate the idea of being on TV.

Bed at last

Today Kallan finally got a bed but not where he wanted. We got a bed in clancy ward again but couldn't get into camperdown.I'm going to ask to speak to someone who is part of the decision making on who goes where and how the whole process works.I'm hoping to get a better understanding of the procedures involved so that when, not if,this happens again i might be a little more understanding.

On a much better note we had an extremely good day today with Mum bringing Kal's Auntie Michelle down for her first visit down here. She bought her kids,Tegan,Hayden and Sarah down with her. Also coming down today were the Morris clan along with Steve's mother Lyn who has been following Kal's progress closely. To top things off Karina arrived shortly after and with Mum packing enough food to feed a small army we had a very nice lunch. After lunch we let the kids go mad in the playground for a while and then went up to the hospital so all the kids could have a bit of a play in the starlight room. They all wanted to check out all the posters up around the place as well.

As the saying goes "all good things must come to an end" as it did in the afternoon when everyone had to make there way back home.Worse still was the fact that Shaylie also left with them.I'ts been tough without having Karina and Shaylie around all the time.I can't wait to spend some time together as a family away from hospitals and in a whole different environment.Knowing that we can come home for a bit after this lot of chemo has made the delays all the more frustrating.Anyway we have a bed now and i just hope he gets through this without too much suffering.

And so it goes on

The waiting game continues as we are still without a bed.I dropped into camperdown ward to have a chat with the nurses and they said they could have as many as four discharges tomorrow so he should definitely get a bed at some stage. The extra days wait actually allowed Shaylie to stay with me down here so I'm pretty stoked about that.Shaylie came down this morning with nanny T and Netty and we got the chance to have a lovely lunch up the road at the Pancake place. They have a variety of meals there not just pancakes and it was very nice indeed.Shaylie found herself to be very popular and was in demand from all angles.A few young girls from various families that shaylie has met along the way were asking where she was and if she wasn't close by when she'd be coming back.Even the captains in the starlight room missed her and were excited to see her return. She too was overwhelmed by the number of posters up around the hospital. At one point she said "wow i didn't expect this many to be up around the place".Kallan is very much looking forward to some more visitors tomorrow with quite a few family members coming down to see him and as always he can't wait for his mum to come down and nor can I just quietly.Looking forward to a good day tomorrow and lots of family around in these circumstances is always appreciated

Waiting,waiting,waiting.

The waiting game continues with Kal still unable to get on ward. With others kids i know also waiting for beds, they can't make any promises for tomorrow either.Who knows how many other kids are waiting. The unfortunate part is i don't see how anything is going to change anytime soon.I have heard that there are plans for a new, much bigger oncology unit sometime in the future. We'll be long gone before that happens.

We had a meeting with Dr Stalley this morning and while he was very happy with his progress he did explain to Kallan that it's going to take him a long time and a lot of effort to get movement back in his arm and also that he'll never get full movement back.It wasn't anything Kal was unaware of but he went into little more detail as to why.He also said that they'll look at doing an extension of his prosthesis just after his chemo is finished. What they do is find the correct spot on his arm, make an incision and then get what Dr Stalley described as "a long allen key type of device" and give it a few turns to what ever length they need. When they first said "growing prosthesis" i always wondered how on earth it all worked. At our meeting with him last month he explained how it all works and i was pretty amazed actually.

Kal's getting a few visitors over the weekend so i almost hope he goes another day without a bed.Typical though, one minute I'm having a whinge about no beds and now I'm hoping for another day.Anyway whatever happens, happens and i certainly won't be knocking a bed back if it comes up.

Still no bed

We went up to clinic today and,as i half expected, got told they were still unsure about beds.Donna from clinic rang later and said to try again tomorrow.Doesn't fill me with much confidence. We're booked in for an appointment tomorrow to do the admission paper work regardless of whether there are beds or not.Even Kal wants to get in and get started despite earlier not minding the delay.

We bumped into the man who looks after the birds and Kal asked if he'd seen the dead bird in the cage.He had but he also told kal that he's had 3 quails disappear as well as a young rosella who was ground dwelling because of deformed feet.He told kal that he was worried about a snake hiding in the Avery somewhere. He asked if Kal could keep an eye out for him.I don't think he realised how serious Kallan would take him but i can assure all of you that he's taken this role very seriously and has spent a lot of time at the Avery since.Even after tea he'd coerced another young fella to get his mums torch to check on the birds. He also did a fair bit of school work today which is good.

Just wanted to send out a "get well soon" to young Eliza Woods who is having an absolutely torrid time of it right now. She's having a bone marrow transplant tomorrow and from what her dad Rowen was saying they expect her to get worse before she gets better. She's a great kid and i can't wait to see her smiling again and starring at quiz time

More tests than Warnie

The day didn't start to well with Kal and I sleeping in and Pop feeling ill and having to leave so as not to infect any of the kids.We had a fully booked day ahead of us starting with the normal pre chemo blood test.Straight after that he had a test called GFR or Nuclear Medicine. They inject a special dye into a vein then he has blood tests on the 2nd,3rd and 4th hour following. In between all that we had to fit in two other tests(hearing and heart) and a clinic appointment for admission after all that. All the results were good with the only possible negative being a slight drop in the extremely high pitch range. One of the levels dropped slightly but is still within what they deem normal range. The other was is the highest pitch range where it dropped slightly lower. But as the specialists said all the other levels were very good and there the ones we most commonly use in our normal everyday lives.
The clinic appointment turned into a non event as it just a simple "come back tomorrow,no beds".Kallan actually busted out into a little jig when Donna told us.

I'm pleased to say that kallan spent a lot time doing homework for the rest of the day.He got through quite a lot of work and was pretty pleased himself I think. We were watching a movie tonight with another family and Kal's at the coffee table doing handwriting exercises.Good on him.

So as of now we just have to hope for a bed tomorrow so chemo can get started and he can get over with. This round is tough one but he wants it over with so he can possibly come home for a short spell. He also wants to spend some time at school while he's home. That will be a big day for all of us i think.

School today

This morning was pretty quiet for us with not a lot happening. We watched a movie then it was off to do some school work.He stayed for about an hour and was given some homework. Now I've just got to get him to do it.We had a lovely dinner put on for us by a local public relations firm and as usual there was heaps left over.I'm pretty sure everyone at the house loves the dinner nights cause there's always heaps of food left over.As well as that the food is almost always top notch.Later in the evening Kal sat down and did some homework while he waited for Nan and Pop to arrive. He's also writing a letter to his classmates, letting them know how he's been going. We've got a busy day tomorrow with a few tests to be done as well as bloods taken and hopefully admission in between all that somewhere.

Trip to the movies........not quite.

This morning Kal had a quick visit from Pop and his mate Tom.They went to Hong Kong(cabramatta)early in the morning to get meat and called in on there way back.He was pretty stoked with the visit.Pop told him that he and Nan are coming down for a couple of days.He said they'll be here tomorrow night sometime.I know he'll really enjoy having Nan&Pop around for a few days.Just after breakfast, while waiting for some washing to dry,we decided to look up what was on at the movies. We picked out what we wanted to see and at what time and off we went.We thought we'd get there a bit early and grab a bite for lunch before the movie.Sounds like a good plan i know but plans mean nothing when the movie you get yourself all excited for doesn't start for another 10 days.Stupid thing is i did the same thing the week before when Karina and i thought we were going to see Watchmen. That still hasn't started so who knows where I've been looking.Today we wanted to see confessions of a shopaholic but as we walked through westfields we saw a big advertisement of the movie with a big "March 12" written on it.Sure enough when we got to the cinema it was a no go and with not a lot else on that kal would enjoy we decided against the movies.Instead Karina,Kal and I had a fantastic day walking through Westfields looking in shops.Maybe I'm exaggerating a little when i say fantastic but in all honesty it was actually really nice just to be out with Karina & Kal.It didn't matter to us where we went it was just nice to be out and about together.Being that Kal and i love shopping so much made it so much better.

Karina left to come home tonight and although it still upsets him to see her go he seems a lot more understanding as to why she needs to.The last couple of times he's really dealt with it much better. The impending visit from Nan and Pop should take his mind off it also.

Weekend update

Thankfully over the weekend kallan was discharged from hospital.I woke on Saturday morning and the nurse looking after him overnight had told me that he had several moderate temperature readings throughout the night. They consider 38 degrees to be high and kal had a few temps of between 37.3 and 37.7.At first i was worried but she said it's nothing to worry about and his temp had already started dropping and as long as it stayed that way he could be discharged as planned. He still feels really good and emotionally he's as good as he 's been in a long time.We are certainly looking forward spending some time out of the hospital especially with Karina here. He's been hogging the cuddles something fierce. Can't say i blame him.
