Out of hospital

Yesterday we had an unexpected visit from Melanie Curtis and her family.Mel is young girl we met that had the same type of cancer as Kallan about 6-7yrs ago. She's kept in touch with us all the way through and was in town having scans and dropped in to see him.To give you an idea of what lies ahead for Kallan,as mentioned Mel had her cancer 6-7yrs ago and she still has one more scan to go until she is fully and officially clear.Add to that the continued surgical procedures on his arm it starts to make you realise that we've got a lot more visits yet.But that's OK we're just so happy to know that it will just be visits and not long term stays. That part is over baby(sorry I've been watching Austin Powers).

This morning we had another surprise when the Doctor said his levels were down to 120 and he could go.The normal target is 100 but they weren't going to leave him in with it being that close. He really got it out of his system fast this time around.A coincidence maybe since it was his last one,I think not.He has been quite emotional this afternoon as he comes to the realisation of what he has achieved.Thank you to everyone who has supported us and kept up with his blog. All the comments are fantastic and the last lot of comments were particularly touching.Thank you

Kal and Dash
Well what can I say!!
23 September '08 to 11 June '09 - even on the calendar it seems like a long time, but you two have lived through it, sometimes pretty rough, sometimes not so much, but every day together. You have made some really good friends and sadly lost one precious little angel. It is all so overwhelming to think that you have made it all the way through.
As you said the other day Kal, you are soooo keen to get back home, but also realise that you are going to miss Westmead - Ronald McDonald House, the staff and friends you have made there, the nurses and the Starlight captains. Julie from Public Relations who has fallen under your spell and who also bought you in a big bunch of balloons and some presents to celebrate your end of chemo, also the bird aivary. They have all been part of your life for the last 9 months.
I think we can all understand why you have such mixed feelings.
I have to also mention Shaylie - how will she manage without the Starlight room and Captains (I hope she didn't have too much of a traumatic day today with Captain Meercat's last day). But I must say that I think they, along with Ronald McDonald House are going to miss her as well - she is such a popular play mate.
Just as a side issue, I have to tell you one little story about one of Kal's favourite nurses. I don't think I even told you Darren. One of Kal's special nurse friends was once known as "Blondie" (for obvious reasons) but she has now changed her hair colour. Kal stated that he could no longer call her Blondie - "I wonder how she would feel about "Hot Stuff". This was while he was getting over his chemo and was still a little sick. Just shows what a great sense of humour he has and what a little trouper he is.
As I said to both of you today as I was leaving, I couldn't be more proud of you both for the way you have come through this whole journey and that I was so proud you were part of my family.
Don't forget to say goodbye to everyone for me as I didn't get the chance to do it myself. I hope they don't keep you waiting too long tomorrow for your scans and sorry I couldn't fit you in the boot to bring you home today Kal, but Mum will be there in the morning and that will make you feel a little better about having to stay there.
Once again - well done Kal, you are just amazing and so are you Dash. We all love you so much.
I think am going to have to keep an eye on my little car as it might just take off to Sydney by itself.
Lots of love always
Nanny Carol
