The Big Day

What a day!A later then expected start for his operation made the day extremely long for poor Kal,especially considering he had to fast for the whole day.True to form though he was in fantastic spirits all day ,even more so when Nan and Pop arrived. The call came for Kallan to be transported to theatre at about 3:30pm and he went under at about 4pm.As Kal was being wheeled away some tears emerged from Kal's eyes(mine too)and karina said his last words before going to sleep were "I'm scared mum".All up the operation took around 3 and a half hours with Dr Stalley labelling the operation a success. He also mentioned that there was quite a large tumor and it has effected some of the surrounding muscle which will result in some restriction of movement in his arm.Unfortunatelly for Kal Dr Stalley said that participation in contact sport would be extremely foolish which i know will devistate Kal and will take him some time to deal with.

Apart from that Kal came out of the operation really well and his pain was well under control. It was a very anxious wait for us all and as you would expect i was a model of patience and calmness(Karina may try and tell you otherwise).Throughout the day plenty of messages flowed from concerned family and friends.I can't thank those people enough for that. The next few days will no doubt be very tough for kal as he deals with the pain and other things but continued support like that already received will no doubt keep his spirits high.Anyway Kal another hump in the road overcome and the finish line is just that little bit closer, your mother and i love you very much and couldn't be more proud.

Hi Kal

We are so pleased that the operation was a success. The part about not being able to do contact sports is very sad but in the long term something else will take your interest. It does not mean that you can not do any sport? I think golf would still be ok and maybe you could be a left handed golfer. We are thinking of you and Mum and Dad and Shaylie at this time. Keep your spirits high and we luv you

lots of luv the Threlfo's

Hi Kal
Dad said in his comments that he and mum could not be more proud - well I think that goes for a whole lot of people - all of your family and friends are so proud of the way you are dealing with things.
Remember what Mel's dad said to you the day they came to visit? You don't have to participate in sports to enjoy them. Well I'm sure there will be lots of sports that you can participate in, but those that you cannot, you still will be able to enjoy. It was really good to see that little smile on your face when you saw the teddy and balloons that she sent to you, even though you were still half asleep.
See you soon brave boy
Love Nan & Pop

Kal - I almost forgot - Get Mum and Dad to tell you about Pop's little mishap with the Starbucks cards. You will get a laugh out of it. By the way, Starbucks are really happy that Dad is back - they will be able to make a profit now, even Pop felt sorry for them and he bought a card for Dad.
Once again, lots of love
Nan

I hope your recovery goes as well as the op itself Kal. It's so good to hear you are in good spirits. It's a terrible rough road you're travelling at the moment and you're taking it on the chin and getting on with it like a complete star. What a year of changes and upsets for you Kal. Thinking of you - love Karen, Mark, Isaac & Saskia. XXXX
